What Torch Will You Pass On?

by | Sep 5, 2007 | 0 comments

Over the course of the next twelve months, the Olympic torch will pass from hand to hand, moving from country to country on the way to Beijing. “Passing the Torch” is a time-honored expression for the realization that we will not be here forever.

We accept the light that someone passes us, we carry it for awhile and when we need to leave off, we pass the torch along to someone else.

What torch did your grandparents light in you? Is it a sage piece of advice? Is it a character trait? Or is it a set of values that you learned from them?

In the coming weeks, CGN will be giving you a place on the web to honor your grandparents by recording their name and the treasure they buried within you. But there IS something you can do today:

Many grandchildren today are in danger of not receiving the same things from their grandparents that we did. Divorce, distance, substance abuse, special needs and absentee parents have changed the dynamic of the family. By giving to the Christian Grandparenting Network Pass the Torch Fund, you will be providing resources to grandparents who find they are unexpectedly raising their grandchildren, scholarships for GrandCamp, and funding for workshops and seminars that help grandparents understand their valuable role in their grandkids lives.

Provide the torch for the next generation of grandchildren to carry. Honor your grandparents by name and through your generous giving “let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” (Hebrews 12:1b NIV)

6 Ways to Love a Grandchild In College

It’s the time of year when college-aged grandchildren are shopping for dorm room or apartment supplies as they prepare to begin a new adventure away from the home in which they grew up. No longer “children” but not yet independent adults. Grandparents must adjust their methods of connection with those I lovingly refer to as “chronological adults.”
