What Kind of Legacy Are Your Leaving?

My friend Barb shared with me how her 97-year-old grandmother has influenced her life with prayer. “My grandmother prays for me by name as well as my husband, children and grandson every day. She has prayed specifically for us and claimed God’s promises, seeing many of her prayers answered.

She has a heart for prayer and has prayed for each of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and her extended family members as long as they can remember. Many of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren do not know her very well, as most of us live far from her.

However, we all know the precious legacy she is leaving and will continue to leave until God takes her home. I believe she has been the strength of our family and the example of God’s love as a Shepherd who will not rest until each sheep has returned to the flock. Perhaps that is why she is still with us, her prayers are leading the last sheep home.”

Thank God for the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren He has placed in your life to uphold in prayer. He has placed those specific loved ones into your life for you to uphold in prayer.

In Isaiah 55:11 we read that God’s Word will not return void, I believe that also pertains to our prayers when we use scriptures. When we claim His promises and pray according to His will, He will accomplish his desires. I believe God stores up our prayers and is waiting for His timing to answer.

As the National Prayer Coordinator of Christian Grandparenting Network, I would like to encourage you to become a part of Grandparents@Prayer (G@P), an intercessory prayer ministry. I would like to encourage you to partner together with other grandparents to pray for your grandchildren. Prayer is not a secondary thing; let’s make it the most important thing we can do for our families. For information about the G@P intercessory groups click on the Prayer link on this website.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for my family. Give me a greater passion to pray for them. The enemy is seeking to destroy our families, however help me to be intentional in my praying for them. In Jesus’ name.

6 Ways to Love a Grandchild In College

It’s the time of year when college-aged grandchildren are shopping for dorm room or apartment supplies as they prepare to begin a new adventure away from the home in which they grew up. No longer “children” but not yet independent adults. Grandparents must adjust their methods of connection with those I lovingly refer to as “chronological adults.”
