Do you believe grandparents matters—or should matter? Grandparents stand in a unique position of being the second most powerful potential spiritual influencers in a child’s life. Only parents possess a higher potential influence.
Since 1998 the Christian Grandparenting Network has worked to convince grandparents that they matter in the lives of their grandchildren. We call it intentionality—an intentional choice to live for the next generations that they may know, love and serve Christ. We have struggled over these years to make our voice known, and while God has allowed us to witness His grace and blessing in this calling, it has only been recently that we have seen an explosion of His favor in this arena.
Under the leadership and vision of Larry Fowler, the Legacy Coalition: Grandparenting That Matters has been launched, and the small snowball, known as CGN, is now caught up in a massive avalanche that cannot be stopped. Hundreds of people, churches and ministry leaders are being swept up in this avalanche.
This week forty excited and passionate leaders, mostly grandparents, gathered at The Hideaway in Black Forest, Colorado for a Leadership Training Summit as ambassadors for the Coalition. For the first time in eighteen years I witnessed the Spirit’s awakening evidenced in the lives of those who attended, along with the constant throng of people across the country flooding into this movement of God. Pastors, ministry leaders, and grandparents are taking a stand and calling for a change in the way we have so narrowly defined family in terms of the nuclear family. There are voices rising in midst of this dark time to call both parents and grandparents back to their respective responsibilities to teach the next generations the truth about God and all He has done.
I want to encourage you to get in the game as well and join the movement. Here are three ways you can do that:
- Organize a group of people (pastors and passionate grandparents) from your church to attend the national Legacy Grandparenting Summit in the Dallas area November 15-17. Chuck Swindoll is launching the event. He will be followed by a powerful line up of national leaders and workshops that herald the fact that grandparents matter. - Sign up to be one of the Million Praying Grandparents across the land who will commit to pray for their grandchildren every day. I urge you to sign up so your name will be among those making this commitment. In return you will receive a suggested prayer tip each week to help you pray effectively for your grandchildren and the influences in their lives.
- Like the Legacy Coalition Facebook page and share it with all your friends. You’ll find encouraging messages and links to resources that will help you be more intentional in your relationship with your grandchildren.
You matter in the lives of your children and grandchildren. Join the movement of Christian grandparents around the world who want to live for the next generations and make sure they matter in what really matters. The game is afoot. Are you part of it?
