Our Prayers Won’t Return Void

by | Aug 15, 2009 | 2 comments

My word goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty (void)
but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Isaiah 55:11 (NIV)

My friend Barb shared with me how her 97-year-old grandmother has influenced her life with prayer. “My grandmother prays for me by name as well as my husband, children and grandson every day. She has prayed specifically for us and claimed God’s promises, seeing many of her prayers answered.

She has a heart for prayer and has prayed for each of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and her extended family members as long as they can remember. Many of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren do not know her very well, as most of us live far from her.

However, we all know the precious legacy she is leaving and will continue to leave until God takes her home. I believe she has been the strength of our family and the example of God’s love as a Shepherd who will not rest until each sheep has returned to the flock. Perhaps that is why she is still with us, her prayers are leading the last sheep home.”

Thank God for the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren He has placed in your life to uphold in prayer. He has placed those specific loved ones into your life for you to uphold in prayer.

In Isaiah, we read that God’s Word will not return void.  I believe that also pertains to our prayers when we use scriptures. When we claim His promises and pray according to His will, He will accomplish his desires. I believe God stores up our prayers and is waiting for His timing to answer.

As the National Prayer Coordinator of Christian Grandparenting Network, I would like to encourage you to become a part of Grandparents@Prayer, an intercessory prayer ministry. I would like to encourage you to partner together with other grandparents to pray for your grandchildren. Prayer is not a secondary thing; let’s make it the most important thing we can do for our families.

Prayer:  Dear Lord, thank you for my family. Give me a greater passion to pray for them. The enemy is seeking to destroy our families, however help me to be intentional in my praying for them. In Jesus name.

  1. I now have 5 precious Grandchildren ages, 2 are 11 months 10 days apart, ages 4, 6, and 9. My husband passed away last October 3, 2023. I’ve been driving 90 moles to see the 4 I live closest to alot since my husband died. I see the other when my son flies me out West several times a year for 3 weeks or more each time. Praying and believing all 5 will accept Christ at a young age, be filled with HIS Word, and seek Him for His plan for their lives. It’s such a difficult, dangerous world, but God has us here “for such a time as this…”
It’s a privilege, blessing & honor to have them in my life.

  2. Hello. God has blessed me with 7 beautiful grandchildren, 5 boys and 2 girls. Their ages are 13 a girl, 11 a boy, 11 a boy, 9 a boy, 7 a boy, and 6 year old boy/girl twins. I and their grandfather are the only ones in our immediate family who are Born Again believers in God and know Jesus as Saviour and Lord. Our children (who are also boy/girl twins), as well as their spouses/partners reject God. So much so, that they don’t want us to share “much” God with them. Even so, we try to share and invite them to church. I pray most every day. Lately, however, I have been moved to pray more often, and more specifically. Recently, I have asked the church where I go to also pray for their salvation. So, I also ask for you and anyone who reads this, and for anyone with whom you share this to also pray, for not only my children and grandchildren, but, for ALL who are in need of God’s Precious Gift of Salvation, through our Redeemer Jesus. As, I will also pray for this organization and all the others who have or will ask for prayers. We all must Make a STAND, and STAND our ground in the STRONG and HOLY name of JESUS CHRIST, who is The MIGHTY and AWESOME GOD of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob! Indeed, HE wants us all to be His Children!

God’s Promise of Abundant Life

When we think of having an abundant life, we often link it to the Merriam-Webster dictionary definition of abundance as “having ample quantity; being plentiful”. While God’s blessings provide us with physical and material provisions, the Bible emphasizes his promise of spiritual abundance.

Grandparent by Choice

Grandparent by Choice

Anyone who marries into a family that has been impacted by death or divorce becomes a parent, and sometimes a grandparent – by choice. The same is true for anyone who fills these vital relationships in a child’s life. You hold a pivotal role in the lives of your spouse’s children and grandchildren. Accept it as God’s calling to disciple younger generations.
