Our Grandchildren Back In School

by | Aug 29, 2009 | 0 comments

The school bells are ringing again. Many of our grandchildren have already started school and the others will be starting soon. The beginning of the school year can be upsetting for the grandchildren with new teachers, new classmates, especially if they are going to a new school setting. They may have to adjust to new coaches, bus drivers, car pools, and other new situations.

A good verse for the grandchildren to memorize is Isaiah 41:10 “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you”. It will assure them that God is with them when they are afraid or uncomfortable.

Suggestions to pray for the grandchildren in school.
Pray they will . . .
1.    Be motivated, disciplined, and challenged in their learning experience.
2.    Desire to do their very best.
3.    Be cooperative with their teachers.
4.    Have a safe, healthy classroom environment.
5.    Treat others with respect.
6.    Choose friends who will have a positive influence.
7.    Develop a strong healthy self-esteem and self-confidence.
8.    Courage to speak biblical truth in the classroom.
9.    Recognize the deception of worldly thinking.
10.    Be covered with God’s safekeeping physically, emotionally and spiritually.
11.    Have a balanced view of their beauty, charm, and strength.
12.    Learn to be responsible for their actions and behavior.

If you know grandparents whose grandchildren go to the same school as your grandchildren, you may want to start a Grandparents@Prayer group. The G@P group can stand in the gap with your prayers for the school, their teachers, administration, and staff. This is going to be harder to do if your grandchildren go to a public school. However, if you know some other Christian grandparents it would be a good idea to get together for prayer. I have three granddaughters in a Christian school and when I approached the principal, he was very happy. We had one meeting with the grandparents last spring to encourage them to pray for their grandchildren and the school. This fall we plan to start a G@P group to meet for prayer on a regular basis.

If you would like to receive more information about the G@P prayer groups or a copy of my “Scriptures to Pray for Grandchildren” in Preschool, Elementary, High school, and College”, click here to fill our our contact form.  I will email be happy to email it to you.

6 Ways to Love a Grandchild In College

It’s the time of year when college-aged grandchildren are shopping for dorm room or apartment supplies as they prepare to begin a new adventure away from the home in which they grew up. No longer “children” but not yet independent adults. Grandparents must adjust their methods of connection with those I lovingly refer to as “chronological adults.”
