Transformational moments in our lives have a way of standing out. They are the moments when something clicks and a quiet realization leads to a lasting change. In 2016, I experienced one of those moments while attending a Legacy Grandparenting Summit in Frisco, Texas.
I arrived unsure of what to expect, though the speaker list promised solid biblical teaching. At the time, my husband and I were deeply involved in children’s ministry with a strong emphasis on discipleship. We were training others to pour into the spiritual lives of children. Yet as speaker after speaker opened God’s Word, I became aware of a startling omission in my own life.
I was discipling other people’s children while unintentionally neglecting those closest to me, my own grandchildren.
If you had asked me then whether I was a good grandparent, I would have answered without hesitation. We cheered from the sidelines, helped with schoolwork, listened attentively, supported their parents, and showed up faithfully. We were doing good things. What we had not yet embraced was intentional Christian grandparenting.
That realization changed everything.
From Good Intentions to Intentional Discipleship
The difference between being a Christian grandparent and being an intentional Christian grandparent may sound subtle, but the impact is profound. Once we understood our biblical role, we began rethinking how we used our time, our words, and our influence. We reordered our priorities to disciple our grandchildren with purpose and prayer.
That first Summit was not the end of a journey but the beginning. Since then, we have continued learning, growing, and helping other grandparents discover God’s design for their role in passing on faith.
Now, on March 19 to 21, 2026, the Legacy Grandparenting Summit returns to Frisco, Texas, once again hosted at Stonebriar Community Church. It feels especially meaningful to return to the same place where God first opened my eyes.
This year is particularly significant as Legacy Coalition celebrates its tenth anniversary. This milestone invites both reflection and celebration of all God has done through Legacy Coalition and the grandparents who have said yes to His calling.
Celebrating a Decade of Faithful Impact
The Summit begins Thursday afternoon kicking off with our founder, Larry Fowler, and Dr. Josh Mulvihill, one of our founding members. Followed by one breakout session to choose from 15 practical topics that will impact your ability to influence your grandchildren spiritually. Thursday evening will be a Night of Celebration, looking back on the past ten years since Legacy Coalition began. This gathering will reflect on a decade of ministry fruit through stories, worship, and joyful remembrance. The evening includes heartfelt testimonies, special musical performances by Fernando Ortega and Scott Wesley Brown, and laughter from comedian David Pendleton.
The celebration concludes with an ice cream party in the Resource Center with over 60 ministry partners. Attendees will receive a special gift – our brand-new Ultimate Guide to Intentional Christian Grandparenting Guidebook.
While Thursday evening looks back with gratitude, the remainder of the Summit looks forward with vision. Friday will feature 2 main stage sessions followed by 2 breakout sessions, and optional Lunch & Learn sessions from our Resource Partners.
Friday evening will be an optional dinner event at the Hyatt Regency with our new CEO and President, Dan Hellige giving us vision for the next decade.
Saturday morning will be a time for Grandparents AND their adult children, learning how to partner to impact the youngest generation in a culture that is hard to navigate. So, consider inviting parents if they live in the local area and would be able to come just to this inspiring morning that could change the trajectory of their family legacy.
A Heart for Eternity: The 2026 Summit Theme
The theme for the 2026 Legacy Grandparenting Summit is A Heart for Eternity, drawn from Colossians 3:2.
“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” (Colossians 3:2 ESV).
As we grow older, thoughts of eternity often come into sharper focus. Health challenges, loss, and life transitions remind us that our days are numbered and our influence matters. Many grandparents find themselves asking deeper questions about heaven, legacy, and what will truly last.
Brenda Peitzman, Director of Events for Legacy Coalition, expresses it this way. God desires that our hearts are not satisfied until we view life through His eternal lens. Without His wisdom and guidance, we will not experience lasting joy or true victory.
This Summit encourages grandparents to lift their eyes beyond daily distractions and recognize each interaction with their grandchildren as an opportunity to point them toward Christ.
What to Expect at the Legacy Grandparenting Summit
The Summit runs from Thursday afternoon through Saturday at noon and is carefully designed to inform, inspire, and equip.
General Sessions and Teaching
Over the course of three days, attendees will experience four general sessions featuring ten main stage speakers. Each speaker brings a unique perspective while remaining anchored in Scripture and practical application.
One featured speaker is Josh Mulvihill of RenewaNation. His session on Eternal Calling focuses on how God has uniquely equipped grandparents to disciple their grandchildren. He offers practical ideas that can be implemented immediately, regardless of family circumstances.
Other main stage topics include Eternal Hope with Dr. Crawford Loritts. He will reinforce that Jesus is our only hope when hardships, suffering, trials and grief come. Eternal Holiness with Christopher Yuan will instruct us in ways to empower our grandchildren to understand, embrace and celebrate Biblical sexuality. Eternal Partnership with Jim Burns covers the critical issue of partnering with our adult children to make the greatest spiritual impact on our grandchildren. Together, these sessions provide a well-rounded biblical framework for grandparenting with eternity in view. See the entire list of speakers at https://legacycoalition.com/summit/ .
Breakouts, Lunch and Learns, and Special Events
In addition to general sessions, the Summit includes three breakout session blocks, two Lunch and Learn opportunities, and a special Founder’s Dinner on Friday evening for those who register. The Founder’s Dinner needs to be registered for along with the conference registration.
New this year is a Saturday morning session for parents and grandparents. This final session is designed to help parents and grandparents partner together in nurturing the faith of children and is included with full conference registration. This one-day ticket can also be purchased alone.
With 42 breakout sessions offered, including sessions in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese, grandparents can choose topics that speak directly to their current needs. See the full list at https://legacycoalition.com/wp-content/Summit26%20Breakouts.pdf .
The Power of Prayer and Hope Renewed
One of the most impactful aspects of the Summit is its emphasis on prayer. Grandparenting often carries unseen burdens, especially when family relationships are strained or grandchildren are spiritually distant.
I remember attending a breakout session years ago led by Sherry Schumann of Christian Grandparenting Network. During that season, we had not seen one of our grandsons for over seven years due to painful family dynamics. Hope felt thin.
Sherry shared words that still echo in my heart. “You may not be able to talk to your grandkids about God, but you can always talk to God about your grandkids.”
That truth reignited hope.
Prayer rooms are available throughout the Summit with trained intercessors praying before, during, and after the event. Attendees can submit prayer requests or receive prayer in person. Sherry Schumann will again be leading a breakout titled Breaking Free from the Burdens We Carry.
Scripture reminds us of God’s will for our hearts.
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, ESV).
Resources to Equip Your Journey
Beyond teaching and worship, the Summit offers a robust resource center featuring more than 65 ministry partners. These resources provide practical tools to support grandparents as they disciple, pray for, and connect with their grandchildren. From books and curriculum to prayer guides and ministry support, the resource center is designed to extend the Summit experience into everyday life. Passing Faith from Generation to Generation
Psalm 78 offers a compelling vision for generational faith.
“We will tell the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord… so that they should set their hope in God.” (Psalm 78:4, 7 ESV).
As I reflect on my own grandparents, I remember simple things. The smell of fresh baked cookies, a porch swing, cousins playing while adults talked. For years, I believed I was a first-generation Christian. Only later did I discover a rich family history of faithful believers stretching back through Scotland, Ireland, and early America.
Somewhere along the way, those stories stopped being told. Faith was not passed down. Learning this deepened my resolve to ensure that future generations in my family will know their spiritual heritage.
Perhaps grandparents from generations ago prayed for me. Perhaps I am part of their answered prayers. Only eternity will tell.
