The Grandparent’s Day of Prayer is only 5 weeks away so it is time to plan how you are going to get two, six, ten or a group of grandparents together to pray for your grandchildren. On the Christian Grandparenting website in the Prayer Coordinator Guide under the Day of Prayer tab, you will find helpful information to plan your event. (www.christiangrandparenting.net
In addition, I would like to share a few ideas for your event. The 55+ group at my church is planning to host a potluck at the church on September 11 right after the service at noon for all grandparents. We are asking the grandparents to bring a photograph of their grandchildren to share with their friends, as grandparents are always eager to show pictures of their grandchildren:
We have also asked a young couple to come and share with us how their grandparents have influenced their lives with their prayers for them. Then we plan to break up in small groups to pray for our grandchildren.
In the Prayer Coordinator Guide, (on the website) you will find articles that you can copy to distribute before or during the event of the following: Especially for Grandfathers, Especially for Grandmothers, Pray for our Grandchildren in School, and Suggestions to Pray for Different Stages of your Grandchildren’s lives.
If you are not able to meet with a group of grandparents try to find one or two other grandparents and unite in pray for your grandchildren. You will be blessed.
If you have any suggestions to make this a meaningful event, please post them in the comments or send me an email to lpenner@christiangrandparenting.net.
The recently published book Grandparenting with a Purpose: Effective Ways to Pray for your Grandchildren by Lillian Penner will challenge you and give you more creative ideas to pray intentionally for your grandchildren. From cell phones, photo prayer journals, and Scriptures to Pray you will find tools that will work for you. The book is available at www.christiangrandparenting.net
