Grandparents: Stand In The Gap

by | May 22, 2007 | 0 comments

Promise Keepers held a men’s rally in Washington, D. C. last year to challenge men to “stand in the gap” (Ezekiel 22:30) on behalf of their wives, families, and the nation, and to be courageous, godly men standing against the wave of spiritual destruction which plagues our land.

Christian Grandparenting Network issues a similar challenge to grandparents on behalf of our families and nation today. Grandparents have the unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of their grandchildren as no one else can. Unfortunately, just as we are a nation of absentee parents, we also shamefully replete with absentee grandparents.

Grandparents have the privilege and opportunity to pass on to their children’s children rich heritage and experience-based wisdom that is sadly missing in the lives of our youth today. Our children are looking for role models they can respect and admire; they are anxious to find something that gives them identity and purpose; they are desperately in need of older men and women who will love them, accept them, and show them the things that are of eternal value.

When God told Ezekiel that He was looking for someone to “build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land” he was disappointed that none could be found. Today we are in danger of losing a whole generation to the enemy if those who have learned and experienced truth do not | pass on that truth to future generations. Are you willing to be a grandparent who will stand in the gap for the sake of future generations?

Grand Camps
, offered by CGN, are a wonderful opportunity for grandparents who are serious about this challenge. CGN believes that responsible grandparents are vital to our future, and a key to their success is spending quality, intentional time with their grandchildren. Thus, CGN has developed a unique Christian camping program for grandparents and their grandchildren called Grand Camps to assist in this task. Two generations will spend quality time learning together, playing together, and discovering together the rich inheritance God has given us to preserve for all generations.

6 Ways to Love a Grandchild In College

It’s the time of year when college-aged grandchildren are shopping for dorm room or apartment supplies as they prepare to begin a new adventure away from the home in which they grew up. No longer “children” but not yet independent adults. Grandparents must adjust their methods of connection with those I lovingly refer to as “chronological adults.”
