Weakness is inherent in human nature and, left to our own devices, we will fall into temptation and fail in our endeavors. No matter how strong we think we are the Bible tells us “the flesh is weak” (Mark 14:38). Satan’s goal is to make us feel weak, useless and ultimately to destroy us. Weakness is part of God’s plan for our life. Our acceptance of weakness is the beginning of lasting change.
Where can we go when we feel weak? The unlimited power of God is the source of strength for those who belong to him. Our strength is related to surrendering to him. James 4:7 tells us “Submit yourself, then to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” When we align ourselves with the strength of God through our submission to him, his power is active and available to us so that we are able to withstand the wiles of the evil one.
Praise
Give praise for the assurance and encouragement God gives us in Isaiah 41:10, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
God’s Presence
“Fear not, for I am with you” is God’s guarantee that his powerful presence is with us, even in the worst of times.
God’s Promise
“I will strengthen you and help you” is God’s promise of divine support, assuring us that he stands with us.
What is our responsibility?
To trust in God’s unwavering power, strength, and presence to find physical and spiritual strength through prayer and faith.
Pray
Abba Father,
Thank you for your words of encouragement and your promise of upholding me in your righteous right hand. Forgive me for my pride that makes me think I can do anything on my own. Lord, when I am weary, tired, or heavily burdened, renew me with your powerful strength. In my weakness, I pray for your strength to guide me. Help me to be strong in spirit and in faith.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
