God’s promise of redemption began in the book of Genesis when man was corrupted by the power of sin due to Adam and Eve’s disobedience. However, even amid sin, God promised a plan of redemption. He would send a Savior who would redeem humanity from the bondage of sin and death. This promise is the theme of the Bible that offers hope for restoration to a right relationship with God.

Genesis 3:15 is an incredible verse and is often called the “first gospel”, because it is the Bible’s first prediction of a Savior and the promise of redemption. Everything else in the Bible flows from these words as they contain the entire plan of salvation. This passage points to the promise of Jesus’ birth, his redemption, and his victory over Satan. The woman’s (Eve) offspring is more than mankind in general, it is an individual representing all mankind. Eve’s offspring is Jesus. This verse shows us that God always had the plan of salvation in mind and informed us of his plan as soon as sin entered the world. The serpent’s strike was not the end. Jesus rose the third day, breaking the power of death and winning the ultimate victory. With the cross, Jesus “crushed” the devil’s head, defeating him forever.

Give praise for God’s promise of redemption. Genesis, 3:15, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”

The promise of redemption is a call to embrace God’s love

It’s an invitation to experience the fullness of his grace and to walk in the freedom of redemption. It’s a reminder that we are loved, forgiven, and redeemed not because of anything we have done, but because of who God is. To be redeemed is to be holy, justified, free, and reconciled. John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Receive God’s promise of salvation

Belief in Christ’s death on the cross as payment for our sins and in his resurrection is evidence that our faith is in him. Romans 10:9, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Holy Father,

Your perfect love assures me of your redemptive power, that through Jesus Christ, my sins are forgiven. I humbly acknowledge my need for your saving grace. I believe you sent your Son to die for me, and I believe he rose again on that third day, victorious over sin and death. I am grateful for the assurance of eternal life. Great is your faithfulness. Thank you, Lord, for your saving grace and the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.
