God’s Promise of Purpose

by | Aug 18, 2025 | 0 comments

Why am I here? is a timeless question, tied to purpose and personal worth. The Bible is clear in that God created man and he created him for his glory. Ephesians 2:10 tells us “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” God’s promise of purpose is an invitation to live a life of meaning by aligning with his will and the unique plan he has for each of us. Discovering our purpose involves seeking God’s will through prayer, scripture study, and reflection.

As God’s creation we are created to do good works that glorify him. Good works are not the means of salvation but evidence of it and shows a life that serves as a testimony to the transformative power of the gospel. As stated in Ephesians 2:10, “prepared in advance for us to do”, indicates that good works are not occasional acts but a continuous lifestyle. This aligns with the teaching of Jesus where he calls his followers to be the light of the world (Matthew 5:14). The call to be light carries the responsibility to live out the values of the kingdom, fulfilling God’s purpose for us, and glorifying him.

Praise

Give praise that God’s promise of purpose is beyond chance. Mathew 5:14, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.”

What if I am struggling to believe God has a purpose for me?

Pray specific and practical prayers for wisdom and direction as you pursue his plan for you. Matthew 7:7-8, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”

How can I find God’s purpose for me?

By seeking God’s will through prayer and Scripture study. The more you get to know the Lord, the better you understand who you are and what your purpose is. Jeremiah 29:11, “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”

How do I stay on track with God’s purpose?

By surrendering to God and stepping out in faith to follow him even when the path is unclear. 2 Corinthians 5:7, “For we live by faith, not by sight.”

Pray

Father God,

I praise you for the purpose you have for my life, for your plans are for my good and for your glory. I come to you, seeking your guidance and direction. When I feel lost and unsure about my purpose, I pray you shine your light on the path you’ve prepared for me. Help me to see how you have been preparing me to do the good works you have planned for me. Give me a fresh vision for my purpose in building and expanding your kingdom.

In Jesus’ name

Amen.
