Are You Your Grandchild’s Advocate?

by | May 20, 2012 | 0 comments

In I John 2:1, we read, “when we sin we have an advocate who intercedes for us to the Father to forgive our sins.” An advocate is an intercessor or one comes alongside to encourage, support or promotes another person. Just as we have an advocate who intercedes for us to the Father, we as grandparents cannot forgive sins but we can be advocates interceding and coming alongside our grandchildren with prayers.

You may ask, “What does that look like?” I will give you some suggestions for you to pray for your grandchildren this week.

Pray your grandchildren will:
1. Develop a soft heart towards Jesus at an early age.
2. Invite Jesus into their hearts
3. Guard their hearts from the deception of the world.
4. Be motivated, disciplines and challenged in their learning experiences.
5. Learn obey their parents, teachers and those authority over them.
6. Choose their friends wisely.
7. Recognize the deception of the world, be strong in their faith to be able to resist the enemy.

Prayer:
Dear Lord, thank you for each of my grandchildren.Help me to faithfully take the time to be their advocate by coming alongside them and intentionally praying for them each day.
My grandchildren are growing up in a troubled world.
Please wrap your arms around them and keep them safe physically, emotionally and spiritually.
I pray they will experience your presence with them.In Jesus’ name. Amen

6 Ways to Love a Grandchild In College

It’s the time of year when college-aged grandchildren are shopping for dorm room or apartment supplies as they prepare to begin a new adventure away from the home in which they grew up. No longer “children” but not yet independent adults. Grandparents must adjust their methods of connection with those I lovingly refer to as “chronological adults.”
