ARE YOU A HELPING HAND?

The warriors of the Amalekites came to fight the Israelites. Moses told Joshua. “Go ahead and fight against them. Tomorrow, I will stand at the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.” So Joshua did what Moses told him. He led his men out to fight the army of Amalek. Meanwhile Moses, Aaron, and Hur went to the top of a nearby hill. As long as Moses held up the staff with his hands, the Israelites had the advantage. However, whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites gained the upper hand. Moses arms finally became too tired to hold up the staff any longer. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for Moses to sit on and they stood on each side holding up his hands until sunset. As a result, Joshua and his troops were able to crush the army of Amalek. (Exodus 17:8-16)

As I was reading this Scripture, I thought how we, including our grandchildren are in a moral and spiritual battle in the world. We, as grandparents need to offer our support to them with our prayers and godly influence just as Aaron and Hur supported Moses when the Israelites were in battle.

Ask God to:

  1. Place a hedge of protection around your grandchildren physically, spiritually, and emotionally.
  2. Give you ideas how you can be a spiritual influence in their lives. Let them know you are praying for them by telling them or sending them a card, email, or text message.
  3. Give your grandchildren wisdom to recognize when they are tempted and attacked by the enemy.

Special note: If you have ideas, you have used to be a spiritual influence and support in the lives of your grandchildren, please share them in the comments on the website or send them to me at lpenner@christiangrandparenting.net. Grandparents need to network together. We have a big responsibility to intentionally grandparent with a purpose.

6 Ways to Love a Grandchild In College

It’s the time of year when college-aged grandchildren are shopping for dorm room or apartment supplies as they prepare to begin a new adventure away from the home in which they grew up. No longer “children” but not yet independent adults. Grandparents must adjust their methods of connection with those I lovingly refer to as “chronological adults.”
