Do your grandchildren know what it is to be afraid?
Children are often shy and afraid in situations that are unfamiliar or uncomfortable. As grandparents, we can help them gain confidence by trying new things, even though they don’t feel comfortable.
In Psalms 56:3 it says, “When I am afraid, I will trust in you.” Encourage your grandchildren to call on Jesus when they are frightened or in an uncomfortable situation. Teach your grandchildren a short scripture, like the one above which they can memorize and quote when they are afraid. Share with them those times when God watched over you when you were afraid, especially in your childhood. It is a wonderful thing for children to learn at an early age that Jesus is always with them.
School age children often feel very alone and sad when their feelings get hurt or things don’t go the way they would like for them to go. Giving them Scripture and your own childhood experiences can help them recall the truth that Jesus is with them, and it can be a great comfort to them.
Prayer:
Lord, I pray ____________ will remember to call on you when he/she is afraid, overwhelmed, or sad. I ask for your divine protection physically, emotionally and spiritually upon them. Guard their hearts from the deception in the world. Thank you for the many ways you have intervened and given him/her protection.
