3 Key Essentials Your Grandkids Need

As grandparents, we have a unique role in shaping the spiritual lives of our grandchildren. It’s a privilege and a responsibility that we all cherish deeply. However, sometimes we need reminders about the process. Here are three essential keys to being the Christian grandparent your grandkids need:

Key #1

Share your faith journey with your grandkids.

One of the most powerful ways to influence your grandchildren spiritually is by sharing your own faith journey. Talk to them about how God has been faithful in your life, the challenges you’ve faced, and how your faith has sustained you through it all. Your personal stories of faith can inspire and guide them in their own spiritual growth. As we see in scripture “I will tell of the kindnesses of the LORD, the deeds for which he is to be praised,….” (Isaiah 63:7)

Key #2

Remember to be in prayer for them consistently.

Never underestimate the power of prayer. Make it a habit to pray for your grandchildren regularly. Pray for their spiritual growth, their health, their relationships, and their future. Let them know that you pray for them and encourage them to share their prayer requests with you. Your prayers create a spiritual covering over their lives and demonstrate the importance of seeking God in all things. Remember, “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” (James 5:16b). And it never hurts to let your grandkids know that you are praying for them.

Key #3

Teach them God’s Word.

Take every opportunity to teach your grandchildren about God’s Word. Share Bible stories with them, read Scripture together, and discuss its relevance to their lives. Help them understand biblical principles and values that will guide them in making wise decisions and living according to God’s will. Remember that we should “Train up a child in the way they should go; even when they are old they will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)

Being a Christian grandparent is not just about passing on traditions; it’s about imparting a legacy of faith that will impact generations to come. By sharing your faith journey, praying consistently, and teaching them God’s Word, you can play a vital role in nurturing their spiritual growth. May God bless you abundantly as you fulfill this sacred calling.

When we think of having an abundant life, we often link it to the Merriam-Webster dictionary definition of abundance as “having ample quantity; being plentiful”. While God’s blessings provide us with physical and material provisions, the Bible emphasizes his promise of spiritual abundance.
