GRANDPARENTS IN THE BIBLE

by | Feb 20, 2011 | 3 comments

The other day I was thinking about the grandparents mentioned in the Bible, wondering how they affected the lives of their grandchildren. What were their concerns at that time? Did they pray for their grandchildren? I will list a few of their names for you.

Abraham and Sarah were Jacob’s grandparents

Isaac and Rebecca were Joseph’s grandparents

Jacob and Rachael were Ephraim and Manasseh’s grandparents

Boaz and Ruth were David’s great-grandparents

Enoch was Noah’s great-grandfather

Methuselah was Noah’s grandfather

Lois was Timothy’s grandmother

Our grandchildren may not turn out to be a king like David, but they become like David who was described as a “man after God’s own heart.”  Paul reminds Timothy of the godly influence his grandmother, Lois, had on him (2 Tim. 1:5).

Pray that your grandchildren will have an undivided heart after God and be a godly influence on their generation throughout the world.

  1. I’m just reading through the 11th chapter of Genesis & saw that Terah was the grandfather of Lot. It wasn’t mentioned in your list above.

Sunday, thank you for your comment. As I said in the post, this was only a list of a few. I chose these specifically because of the way they were used by God for a specific purpose. Hope you have a blessed Passion Week.

    • I really enjoyed this reading. I was able to utilize this information for a message at a Grandparents Day event that we had at our church honoring our grandparents

Bridging the scriptural gap does not mean preaching at grandchildren or forcing faith into every conversation. It means standing in the space between biblical truth and everyday life, helping children connect God’s Word to their questions, fears, hopes, and daily experiences.

Helping Grandchildren Discern Truth From Lies

Recently, I programmed my phone’s GPS to guide me to a specific location, and somehow I ended up with two AI women giving me directions at the same time. To make things more confusing, they weren’t giving me the same directions. This experience reminds us that many “voices” compete for our grandchildren’s attention. Some voices impart truth; others don’t.

Most of us also remember what it felt like when our own parents interfered in our parenting. We didn’t appreciate it then—and our kids won’t now. So how do we stay involved without overstepping?
