DANGEROUS TIMES

“They exchanged the truth of God for a lie…” Romans 1:25a

You may have heard about the announcement by the US Attorney General this past week that the Administration will NOT defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in our courts, even though it is the law of the land. The decision was justified by the Attorney General because in his opinion the law of the land now constitutes “animus” (a display of animosity or hatred) towards gays and lesbians in violation of the Equal Protection Clause. In other words, centuries of established moral standards are now considered “harmful”.

Grandparents and parents, it is important that we understand the implications of this decision for today and future generations. This decision threatens, not only the sacred and historic institution of marriage as God designed it, but the foundational moral pillars the make any nation or people great and stable. It catapults our grandchildren’s future into a moral black hole. Their religious liberty is at stake, as is ours, but the impact will be most felt by them unless the Lord comes.

What can we do? Here are four things I suggest we can and must do. First, we must get on our knees and repent for the moral vacuum that our generation allowed to developed on our watch. Second, we must fervently pray for our national leaders and our grandchildren. Third, we must teach and model genuine godliness and holiness for our grandchildren in every area of life. Fourth, we must take action as citizens of this nation. We dare not sit back and refrain from speaking out. We must do so graciously, yet unapologetically; compassionately, yet truthfully. Undoubtedly we will be hated and scorned, just as Christ said we would—but act and speak out we must, for our children’s sake. Please follow the links below for more information about how to make your voice heard.

It is not enough to be a “good” grandparent in today’s world. We must be radical, Kingdom grandparents who are committed to live authentically in love and truth so our grandchildren and their children may know the Lord and His kindness expressed to us in Christ Jesus. Whatever may come, we must never forget nor fail to demonstrate that our hope and our trust is in the Lord—He is our strength and our shield. And His law is perfect!

GRANDPAUSE: When we were young many of us were involved in Youth For Christ—today we must be engaged as Grandparents For Christ, for the sake of the next generations!

The Nurturing Qualities of God

The concept of God’s care and compassion is a central theme throughout the Bible. Although the Scriptures – and Jesus as well – refer to God as “Father”, there are numerous examples of God demonstrating nurturing, caring attributes similar to those of a mother.

Bridging the Scriptural Gap for Your Grandchildren

Bridging the scriptural gap does not mean preaching at grandchildren or forcing faith into every conversation. It means standing in the space between biblical truth and everyday life, helping children connect God’s Word to their questions, fears, hopes, and daily experiences.

Helping Grandchildren Discern Truth From Lies

Recently, I programmed my phone’s GPS to guide me to a specific location, and somehow I ended up with two AI women giving me directions at the same time. To make things more confusing, they weren’t giving me the same directions. This experience reminds us that many “voices” compete for our grandchildren’s attention. Some voices impart truth; others don’t.
