Using the familiar images of salt and light, Jesus paints a challenging picture.  He asks us to dig deep within ourselves to connect with the salty presence of the Holy Spirit when almost immediately He tells us to reach high, stretching ourselves to be the beacon of His light to those around us. The ultimate goal is to spend eternity in Heaven with all of our loved ones gathered around us.

Biblically, light has always been a symbol of holiness, wisdom, and God’s promise of revelation. By contrast, darkness has been associated with despair, evil, and sin. God’s Word is a living energy that actively provides a source of insight and direction as we navigate in a dark and sinful world.

It is easy to love others when we are loved; this is circumstantial and based on feelings. But what about those who frustrate, anger, criticize, disappoint, hurt, or even just plain annoy us? The word Immanuel is written three times in the Bible, twice in the Old Testament and once in the New Testament. Jesus came to earth because we needed Him to show us what God is like, to forgive our sin, and to offer a new path to having an intimate relationship with our Creator God. Here's what that means.

I have listened to countless sermons on pride, but I have never heard a better description of pride than the one in a children’s song entitled “The Me Monster.” When we depend upon our abilities instead of God, pride is in control. And the minute pride takes control; we become our own idols. There is a remedy.
