One of the quickest ways to get a grandparent’s attention is to start talking about GrandCamp. Fascinated by the concept, everyone wants to know more. It doesn’t require a PhD to realize that were it not for the millions of faithful grandmothers in our lives who have graciously modeled Christlikeness to their grandchildren and guarded the truth, there would be considerably fewer of us who now know and follow Christ. I personally know dozens of men and women who are following Christ because of a grandmother—my grandmother included. 

I posed this question to a panel of theologians at a Christian seminar: “How would you counsel Christian grandparents to leave a faith legacy for their grandchildren when the parents don’t demonstrate a strong faith legacy of their own?” A large, collective groan from the attendees confirmed that I am far from alone in having this thought. (Read more)

“My two grandsons, who live far away, have no interest in knowing who I am. How do I pray for them and find a way to connect?” The pain behind this grandmother’s question is real and not at all uncommon. There are many of us with teenage or young adult grandchildren with whom we find it increasing difficult to stay connected. How should we pray about situations like this? What can we do to build meaningful connections with them?

Dispel the thought that you can’t talk about sexual things until a child is about 13 years old when it becomes necessary to have “the talk.” You might ask, “Why can’t we wait to talk about sex, or can we not talk about it at all?” We need to talk about it because our society is hard at work, bombarding the kids with unhealthy, unbiblical information every day on TV, movies, and on their phones.  

The word “Messiah” comes from the Hebrew/Aramaic word mashiach, meaning “anointed one” or “chosen one.” Only Jesus, the Son of God, fits the biblical narrative and prophecies for the promised Messiah.

Grandparents often find it difficult to know how to pray for their teenage grandchildren. Our grandchildren face many confusing and critical cultural is that we didn’t encounter when growing up or raising our children. We often find it hard to relate. We can never understate the power of one’s mind. Consider what the Bible has to say about our minds.
