“I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone…” I Timothy 2:1
My pastor once asked the question, “if tomorrow every reference to prayer in the Bible mysteriously disappeared, would anything today be different in your life from yesterday”? That was a very convicting question. Dick Eastmen would answer “no”. He has seen the power of God’s people around the world when they pray. As president of America’s National Prayer Committee and international president of Every Home For Christ, he makes this bold claim, “I maintain that prayer alone will remove every obstacle that stands in the way of finishing the task of world evangelization. And because the obstacles are yet many, we need more prayer.”
If he is correct, then as grandparents we ought to be praying diligently and faithfully for our grandchildren as they face a world filled with every kind of evil obstacle. The question is…do we believe that prayer really is the weapon God will use to remove every obstacle? If we don’t believe that, then not much will change regardless of how many references to prayer are or are not in the Bible. If, on the other hand, we believe God and His Word, then we are compelled to go to our knees and pray and pray and pray. If we believe prayer alone will remove obstacles, we will seek more time and every opportunity to pray.
On September 11th of this year one of those opportunities will present itself for grandparents to join hands across this nation in prayer for the next generations. It is the national Grandparent’s Day Of Prayer. I believe this will be a transformational moment in our nation. As an event, it means little if this is the only time we pray. But, as a beachhead for launching a platoon of praying grandparents scattered across this land who are will not yield in this task, God will accomplish mighty things in His name because He is not willing that any of His little ones be lost—and neither are we!
Will join the army of grandparent prayer warriors who will do battle for our grandchildren beginning September 11, 2011? I urge you to invite other grandparents to gather with you on this day and pray. You can find resources to help you organize a group of praying grandparents in your city by clicking here. If the answer to the question I first asked is “yes”, I hope it will be because you are saying, “yes, I will be even MORE of prayer warrior than ever before”!
