Random Acts of Kindness

Last night I was visiting with a missionary from Ukraine and she was telling us that in their children’s program they are teaching the children to do random acts of kindness. It reminded me of when it was popular to do random acts of kindness a few years ago. The thought came to me that it would be a good idea to encourage our grandchildren to do random acts of kindness and have them report the act of kindness to us. Wikipedia states, “A random act of kindness is a selfless act performed by a person or persons wishing to either assist or cheer up an individual.”

We read in Ephesians 4:32, “Be kind and compassionate to one another.” Being kind is being caring, gentle, thoughtful, considerate, sympathetic, compassionate, and nice to others. When we do acts of kindness without an identifiable plan, we are doing it randomly.

My nine-year old granddaughter was visiting us yesterday and I challenged her to do some random acts of kindness and report back to us when she returns.

Let’s challenge our grandchildren to be kind and compassionate to their family members, classmates, friends, and others. They are growing up in a self-centered environment, which encourages them to think only of ones self. However, let’s encourage them to do random acts of kindness to let God’s love flow through them to others without having to tell them.

Lord, I pray that you will give me wisdom how I can encourage

my dear grandchildren to do random acts of kindness

to their siblings, playmates, classmates and families.

In Jesus’ name.

Helping Grandchildren Discern Truth From Lies

Recently, I programmed my phone’s GPS to guide me to a specific location, and somehow I ended up with two AI women giving me directions at the same time. To make things more confusing, they weren’t giving me the same directions. This experience reminds us that many “voices” compete for our grandchildren’s attention. Some voices impart truth; others don’t.

The Bread That Lasts Forever

Bread baking is one of my favorite pastimes. It began when my mother first introduced me to the art of yeasted breadmaking. Back then, I had to climb up onto a chair to reach the counter. I loved standing there with my mother’s arms wrapped around me while she pressed...
