Patience, Kindness, Goodness

by | Apr 18, 2009 | 0 comments

But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Galatians 5:23 NLT

Patience

Patience has the capacities to be patient, showing self-control, bearing pain or trials without complaining, being able to be calm, steadfast and persevering, even while waiting.

Ask God to help your grandchildren develop patience in the hearts, as He refines them to become all He wants them to be.
Pray for them to have patience when waiting for God to answer their prayers because very often their timing isn’t God’s timing.
Pray they will learn to be patient and tolerant with their family members and friends.

Kindness –

Kindness is having compassion, sympathy, being gentle, thoughtful, considerate and helpful.

Pray our grandchildren will make the choice to grow seeds of kindness. Kindness must be planted deliberately. It doesn’t grow on its own.
Pray they will look for places to do random acts of kindness.
Pray they will be kind, thoughtful, considerate and helpful with the family members, with their friends and classmates.

Goodness –

Goodness is being kind, honest, and decent.

Ask God to help your grandchildren develop a heart of goodness.
Pray for a hunger for God’s Word so they will grow in their spiritual lives resulting in goodness flowing from their lives.
Ask God to help them learn to be honest.

Helping Grandchildren Discern Truth From Lies

Recently, I programmed my phone’s GPS to guide me to a specific location, and somehow I ended up with two AI women giving me directions at the same time. To make things more confusing, they weren’t giving me the same directions. This experience reminds us that many “voices” compete for our grandchildren’s attention. Some voices impart truth; others don’t.

Grandparenting Without Overstepping

Most of us also remember what it felt like when our own parents interfered in our parenting. We didn’t appreciate it then—and our kids won’t now. So how do we stay involved without overstepping?
