The first thing that most people think of when they hear or use the word “inheritance” is money or material wealth of some kind. However, a good man’s inheritance involves more than material assets because he knows there are things of ultimate importance and value that material assets cannot provide. Kingdom grandparents are intentional about building a richer and better inheritance for their family.

One example of such an inheritance is giving the gift of humility in serving others. Such an inheritance helps our grandchildren grasp what it means to consider others better than themselves. So, how do we give this kind of inhertance to our grandchildren? Here’s one possible suggestion.

We spend a lot of money on ourselves to travel, eat out, and various amusements. What would happen if we turned some of those expenses into kingdom investments for the spiritual welfare of our grandchildren (and ourselves)?  For example, consider turning some vacation time into a ministry event with your grandchildren on a missions trip or doing a service project together. For younger, grade-school age grandchildren who live nearby, you could look into opportunities to help with Thanksgiving or Christmas basket distributions or helping at a distribution warehouse near you for Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child. The opportunities are there if we take the time to look and ask God to show us how He would have us serve.
