Grandchildren A Crowning Glory

“Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged.”
Proverbs 17:6 NLT

An example of a praying grandparent is from my friend whose Grandmother is 97 years old. She writes, “My grandmother has prayed my name as well as my husband’s and children’s names every day of our lives. Many of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren do not know her very well, as most of us live so far away.
However, all of us know of the legacy she has fulfilled and will continue until God takes her home. I believe she has been the strength of our family and the example of God’s love as a Shepherd who will not rest until each sheep has returned to the flock. Perhaps that is why she is still with us, her prayers are leading the last sheep home. She will be greatly missed when she goes to be with Jesus.”
My friend’s grandmother really saw her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren as her crowning glory, praying for them every day.
Are you praying for your family by name or one lump sum? We need to pray for them by name, they are individuals. There may be times, like at mealtime, that you may want to pray for them all together.  However, other times pray for them by name… they deserve it. God sees them as individuals.  After all, God’s Word says that our individual names are written in the Lambs Book of Life.

Bridging the scriptural gap does not mean preaching at grandchildren or forcing faith into every conversation. It means standing in the space between biblical truth and everyday life, helping children connect God’s Word to their questions, fears, hopes, and daily experiences.

Helping Grandchildren Discern Truth From Lies

Recently, I programmed my phone’s GPS to guide me to a specific location, and somehow I ended up with two AI women giving me directions at the same time. To make things more confusing, they weren’t giving me the same directions. This experience reminds us that many “voices” compete for our grandchildren’s attention. Some voices impart truth; others don’t.

Grandparenting Without Overstepping

Most of us also remember what it felt like when our own parents interfered in our parenting. We didn’t appreciate it then—and our kids won’t now. So how do we stay involved without overstepping?
