GrandCamps: Connecting the Generations

by | Nov 4, 2006 | 0 comments

If you have not been introduced to our GrandCamp program, let me tell you about an extraordinary opportunity to connect with your grandkids and build for the future. In fact, with Christmas around the corner, taking your grandkids to GrandCamp could be one of the best gifts they will ever receive.

GrandCamps are an attempt to provide a positive change in the family by calling attention to the fact that grandchildren do not think that grandma and grandpa are archaic or unwanted. In fact, according to a Weekly Reader survey, the first choice among children for family vacations is going to Grandma and Grandpa’s house. We believe there is a vital connection between grandparents and grandchildren, and we are committed to do all we can to bring these two generations together in a meaningful experience that will transform both, and transfer a lasting spiritual legacy for our future parents and grandparents.

GrandCamps are typically a five day, four night “retreat” experience where grandparents and grandkids play together, explore together, learn together and bond together. Grandparents tell their stories and learn how to “bless” their grandkids. Grandkids get to experience the joy of the vital connection that exists between them and their grandparents while discovering something about themselves through their own family history.

Through it all, families are brought together and learn how to use the resources and wisdom God offers to bring healing and hope in a dark time. Values, traditions, character and spiritual life are all part of the GrandCamp experience. Grandparents are a vital key to strong families, and elderquest wants to help them identify and use the tremendous gifts and power they possess in Christ to bring stability and harmony to our families, to prepare another generation to know the Lord, and to experience and be amazed by the blessing of His grace. We are committed to doing all we can to prevent a generation growing up like that described in Judges 2:10 “who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done…”

Now, if the word “camp” creates images of rustic cabins, crickety bunkbeds and long walks down a dirt trail to the shower house, you have not done “camp” the way GrandCamp does camp! Currently, our GrandCamp programs are held at Christ Haven Lodge in Colorado where you will find the finest mountain lodge accommodations for grandparents and grandchildren, a variety of options for fun activities and field trips, a delightful climate and incredible scenery. No tents or sleeping bags here!

GrandCamps are a wonderful opportunity for long distance grandparents to be with their grandchildren in a unique and meaningful experience that neither will forget. At a time when many of our grandparents are exiting to warmer climates and retirementKayaking communities away from their Kayakinggrandchildren, our families are desperate for the important stabilizing elements which only an older generation can provide. Mature, godly grandparents are in a unique position to connect with grandchildren at the soul level and help them understand such things as giving, loving, honesty, community, commitment, respect, and loving God with our whole being.

GrandCamps are intended to challenge grandparents to embrace these opportunities and to rise up with renewed vision and vigor for this vital role that God has given us. At a time of critical need, grandparents might be the most significant influence in a child’s life. GrandCamps are one means for engaging in the fight for strong, healthy families by restoring grandparenting to its influencial and vital place in the family.

Helping Grandchildren Discern Truth From Lies

Recently, I programmed my phone’s GPS to guide me to a specific location, and somehow I ended up with two AI women giving me directions at the same time. To make things more confusing, they weren’t giving me the same directions. This experience reminds us that many “voices” compete for our grandchildren’s attention. Some voices impart truth; others don’t.

The Bread That Lasts Forever

Bread baking is one of my favorite pastimes. It began when my mother first introduced me to the art of yeasted breadmaking. Back then, I had to climb up onto a chair to reach the counter. I loved standing there with my mother’s arms wrapped around me while she pressed...
