Summer is passing quickly. We have now reached the midpoint of summer. If we want to do something special and intentional with our grandchildren this summer, the time is now. Here are some suggestions for creating mid-summer memories.

Charles Spurgeon, a powerful Christian preacher in the mid-1800’s, once wrote, “The sovereignty of God is the pillow upon which the child of God rests his head.” We may assume something is wrong when we face trials or experience pain. Rest easy. Even though we don’t always understand His ways, we are safe with the God.

The core needs of our military families are no different than those of our non-military families.  All families need security and stability. The members of our armed forces AND their families sacrifice both to protect our freedom. Military families with a strong support system handle subsequent moves, deployments and fear of the unknown better than those without support. This is where grandparents have the opportunity to step in and lend a helping hand.

No matter what people told me, it wasn’t until I actually became a grandfather that I appreciated the joy it brings. Grandparenting is a sacred calling. As a Chrisitian grandfather, you will demonstrate the love of our heavenly father to your grandchildren.

Liberty and freedom are words we hear often as we prepare to celebrate the 4th of July. We cherish our independence and take great pride in our freedom from worldly bondage and oppression. However, the biblical concept of liberty is different from the world’s idea of freedom. Clearly, God wants us to experience the joy of spiritual freedom.

As our family bears the recent lost a husband, father and grandfather, we struggle with the huge hole left behind. His sudden, unexpected heart attack left us reeling and wondering how God would care for our family in the absence of such a strong, loving, godly, servant leader. It is through the enduring heart legacy of a father and grandfather.
