Pray For The Adult Influences On Your Grandchildren

by | Sep 23, 2011 | 0 comments

Have you thought about praying for the many adults who influence your grandchildren? Are the adults involved in your grandchildren’s lives good role models? Adults who have influence on them may be their other grandparents, teachers, principal, coaches, carpool or bus drivers, Sunday school teachers, children’s directors, pastors, youth leaders, neighbors, scout leaders, extra-curricular activity teachers, doctors, etc. Many other adult influences indirectly affect your grandchildren, including elected and appointed officials, (local, state, and federal), TV producers, developers of electronic games, musicians, textbook authors, members of the media, fashion designers, etc.

Ask your grandchildren for their teachers’ names, and, if possible, meet their teachers and others involved in their lives so you know for whom you are praying. If you have an opportunity to tell them, you are praying for them.

A Prayer for their Teachers

Dear Father, bless grandchild’s name____ teachers with strength, joy, and favor,

having a peaceful transition with their new students and parents.

I pray they will make the children feel safe, protecting them

from verbal, emotional, and physical abuse.

I pray each teacher will have a strong sense of purpose.

Give them wisdom, patience, creativity, insight and perseverance.

Give them a special love for each student

so the students will feel loved, accepted, and comfortable.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Bridging the scriptural gap does not mean preaching at grandchildren or forcing faith into every conversation. It means standing in the space between biblical truth and everyday life, helping children connect God’s Word to their questions, fears, hopes, and daily experiences.

Helping Grandchildren Discern Truth From Lies

Recently, I programmed my phone’s GPS to guide me to a specific location, and somehow I ended up with two AI women giving me directions at the same time. To make things more confusing, they weren’t giving me the same directions. This experience reminds us that many “voices” compete for our grandchildren’s attention. Some voices impart truth; others don’t.

Grandparenting Without Overstepping

Most of us also remember what it felt like when our own parents interfered in our parenting. We didn’t appreciate it then—and our kids won’t now. So how do we stay involved without overstepping?
