“The weapons we fight with are not weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.” 2 Corinthians 10:4
Have you ever been frustrated by certain special interest groups who seem to get their way most of the time? I recently attended the Global Leadership Summit hosted by Willow Creek Association. Bill Hybels announced to more than 100,000 attendees that a few hundred signatures by a group of gay activists influenced the CEO of Starbucks to cancel his appearance at the summit. My greatest disappointment was that Mr. Shultz, who was scheduled to speak on leadership, caved in to false and slanderous claims made against Willow Creek. This isn’t the first time this relatively small group has influenced major players to change their plans through lies and intimidation, nor will it be the last.
Last year a group of researchers conducted an interesting study called “Minority Rules”. They concluded that when just ten percent of the population holds an “unshakable belief”, the majority of that society will always adopt their belief. If they’re correct, why do Christians, who constitute far more than ten percent of our population, seem to have such little impact upon our society? Did the researchers get it wrong?
Chuck Colson made an interesting observation on this question this week. He believes “too many culture-weary Christians have retreated to the pews”. In other words, we have not fulfilled our responsibility to be salt and light in the world, and to do so in a positive, winsome way. It’s one reason many of our grandchildren have turned away from the faith.
Now…imagine what would happen if all the Christian grandparents in our nation went to their knees to pray for their grandchildren on a daily basis. Imagine what would happen if those same grandparents committed to gather in groups of three, six, twenty or a hundred and pray for the children of our nation and their families all on the same day! Among the nearly eighty million grandparents in the United States today, roughly sixty percent claim to be followers of Christ. That’s more than fifteen percent of our total population, far more than the ten percent needed to influence change in our nation.
With unshakable belief in God, who Created all that is and whose greatness and power none can compare, His divine power will reveal itself to demolish the enemy’s strongholds and turn the hearts of this generation to Christ. Grandparent’s Day falls on September 11th this year, the tenth anniversary of 9/11. What more appropriate time for grandparents across this nation to gather together and pray! We can be that ten percent unshakable belief factor for our day. Will you be one of the ten percent and join us to pray on September 11, 2011?
GRANDPAUSE: The reason some succeed in battle is because they gain the victory on their knees before the fight begins. Unknown
