In these verses, David gives us a warning and then a promise. He warns us not to follow ungodly advice, hang around, or join with sinners. However, David does tell us to delight in and meditate on God and His Word. Then we will be as trees planted by the riverbank, well watered and strong, bearing fruit each season and enjoy a prosperous life.
As grandparents, we desire for our grandchildren to live significant lives not conformed to this world but able to recognize and resist the ungodly influences to which they are exposed. However, we would like for them to be like trees watered by God’s Word, growing strong in their faith, making decisions according to His Word. Then they will have purpose, live a prosperous life bearing fruit in each season of their life, and be a blessing to others.
We need to pray our grandchildren’s parents will encourage and teach our grandchildren to love the Lord with all their heart, soul and mind and delight in God’s Word. In addition, we can pray for them intentionally and water their lives with our godly examples.
