The Prayer of Jabez

“Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!”

I Chronicles 4:9-10

In the book The Prayer of Jabez, Bruce Wilkinson gives us an excellent example of a prayer to pray for our grandchildren. I like to personalize this scripture by paraphrasing it for each grandchild. I would encourage you to do the same.

“Lord, bless _____ and expand his/her territory. Give _________ a territory or an area to prepare him/her self to serve you. Give _________a place of influence and responsibility with which to honor you. Please be with ___________ in all he/she does, and keep him/her from all trouble and pain. Help ________ to recognize the deception of the world. Protect him/her from the evil one. In Jesus name, Amen.

No longer “children” but not yet independent adults. Grandparents must adjust their methods of connection with those I lovingly refer to as “chronological adults.”
